CHILDREN IN THE LIBRARY
The library staff works cooperatively with parents and
children to try to ensure that everyone has safe, pleasant, and
productive experiences at the library. The library staff will assist
your children in finding information, choosing books, and using
library resources. However, the library staff will not assume your
rightful responsibility to supervise your child’s choices, activities,
or behavior.
The library staff will enforce rules of acceptable
behavior. Should your child repeatedly violate the rules, he or she
will be asked to leave the library. In that case, the librarian will
inform you that your child must be accompanied by a responsible person
(age 16 or older) on future visits to the library.
If your child is unattended by a
responsible person when it is time for the library to close, the
library staff will verify that the child has a plan for getting home,
or will make any telephone call necessary to arrange for his/her safe
transportation home. If no arrangement has been verified, and no one
has come for the child by 15 minutes after closing time, the staff
will call the local police department, and will remain with the child
until he/she is safely delivered into the custody of his or her family
or the police.
